The joint Central Oklahoma Chapter of the American Meteorological Society (COCAMS)was initially organized in November 1959 and was officially chartered by the AMS in January 1961. The Chapter became inactive in 1983. Owing to the large influx of meteorologists into Norman during the early and mid 1990s, efforts were made to reactivate the chapter. A reorganizational meeting was held in August 1996 and interim officers were appointed to apply for a charter and make plans for the first meeting, which was held in October 1996. The chapter was officially rechartered by the AMS and the National Weather Association NWA in 1996. The payment of $15 annual dues entitles one to become a member of COCAMS, with reciprocal membership in the Central Oklahoma Chapter of the NWA. Other Chapter Officers:
