Olympic weather support has traditionally been led by the host's country's
primary weather agency. The organization of the weather support system for
the 2002 Winter Games in Utah differed from all previous Olympics, in that
the Private Sector was engaged to provide location-specific venue forecasting.
WeatherBank, Inc., Edmond, Oklahoma, sent a team of meteorologists that
provided on-site weather forecasting for four of the five outdoor venues at
the 2002 Winter Games.
Mr. Steven Root, CCM, President/CEO, WeatherBank, Inc., will present the
history and structure behind this unique private-public organization, and
relate his first-hand impressions of forecasting for the Deer Valley Venue.
